MILAN, ITALY – Instagram's latest video-sharing feature Instagram Live has been transmitting looks from the New York runway all week, in real time, all over the free world. We are expecting the same in Milan, as the women's ready to wear shows unfold throughout Italy's fashion capital in just a few days.

The live feature actually made its fashion debut during Pitti Uomo in January. That’s right, it made a huge splash in Florence when Tim Coppens used the feature to broadcast his fashion show.

At the time, bloggers, journalists and influencers had really just discovered the feature and were fumbling with the new technology during the shows, asking each other how it works.

“I can’t get it right,” said one. "What do you press?"

“Can you figure this out?” asked another, after the first mens show of the season.

Instagram has indeed become a primary source of earnings for those who have a powerful following on social media and mastering new technology such as this one is crucial.

Instagram Live, takes the disappearing image feature of Snapchat to a new level, is yet another feature that has rendered Instagram, the 360 degrees “go to” place for the fashion set.

Here are some ways to make your Instagram Live more effective this fashion week:

1. You are WHO follows you: Remember it is all about interaction not just likes: brands and individuals who have branded themselves, have some harsh judges out there. New data monitoring software that measures the health of an influencer are being developed and are improved every day. It’s not all about followers - because anyone can buy those. Key factors like comments, and how the people who follow you rank in the industry are major indicators of a brand's social media prowess.

2. VALUE is key: Whenever you go live, a message pops up announcing you are in air. Make sure what you are posting is WORTH IT. Viewers are tuning in like you have something important to say. Aim for exclusive events, celebrity appearances — we want to learn something from you.

3. Consistency: Going live at the same time every day or every week will help give your current followers and potential followers a heads up.

4. Break Scoops: Think like a reporter. If you see someone famous, grab an interview. If you are privy to a pre-show viewing, capture some details, shors and some quotes from the designer.
